How to price used items for sale

A simple method: comparable ads in your city, condition, and how fast you need the item gone. No fake ‘market algorithms’.

There is no official used-price list for a five-year-old sofa in your postcode. There is a cluster of other ads. Price inside that cluster unless you have a reason not to (rare colourway, extra accessories, obvious damage).

A 15-minute method

  1. Search your city for the same item and sort by newest.
  2. Ignore ads older than a month — they are not clearing.
  3. Note the middle of the remaining prices.
  4. Subtract for missing parts or visible wear; add only for extras a buyer asked for last time you sold one.
  5. Decide whether you need it gone this week. If yes, sit 10–15% under that middle.
