New vs used: what should you choose?
A plain comparison of new and second-hand for phones, furniture, and cars — including when used is a false saving.

Used is not automatically smart. New is not automatically safe. The useful question is: what fails first, and who pays when it does?
| Category | Used often wins when… | New often wins when… |
|---|---|---|
| Phones | You can test it and battery health is documented | You need warranty or a locked-in software window |
| Furniture | You can transport it and wear is cosmetic | You need a matching set or fire-retardant labels |
| Cars | You budget for an inspection and repairs | You need predictable finance and warranty |
| Services | Not applicable — you are hiring a person | Not applicable |
False savings
A used fridge that dies in a month, a phone that cannot leave the seller’s iCloud, a sofa you cannot get down the stairs: the classifieds price was not the real price. Build a small buffer.
